Visiting RDM Osteopathy for the first time? Here’s what you can expect before, during, and after your appointment — so you can feel confident and relaxed from the moment you arrive.
Before your Appointment
Prior to attending for your first appointment, you will be asked to complete a consent form. This helps us to understand your medical background, current symptoms, and any relevant lifestyle factors.
During your Appointment
An initial consultation will be conducted where a thorough case history will be completed. This enables us to identify areas of pain and discomfort and formulate a treatment plan.
A physical, hands-on examination will then be conducted to work out the most appropriate techniques and then, if safe to do so, proceed onto treatment. This may include soft or deep tissue massage, manipulative therapy, stretching and neuromuscular technique.
*You may be asked to undress to your underwear or wear loose-fitting clothing so the osteopath can properly assess and treat you. Gowns and covers can be provided if needed.
After your Appointment
Following your appointment, the Osteopath may give you advice on what is best to do for your personal aftercare. This may involve drinking plenty of water, stay mobile, offer ergonomic or lifestyle advice and discuss your bespoke treatment plan. Exercises may also be provided, if necessary. It is common to feel soreness and fatigue for 24-48 hours following treatment.
Tips for your visit
- Bring a comprehensive list of any medications you may be on or have been on.
- Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing.
- Arrive promptly in order to maximise the practitioners time.
